Game Recap: Farm and Agriculture Night/Scout Sleepover

Good morning, ‘Cats fans! We’re officially halfway through our six-game homestand here at “The Joe” after the ‘Cats finished off a series sweep against the Aberdeen IronBirds last night on Farm and Agriculture Night! We had a great crowd in attendance as we also celebrated the great outdoors with groups of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who came out to the game, participated in our in-game promotions and camped out on the field last night for a Scout Sleepover!

As fans were lining up to get through the front gates, they were greeted by a Rensselaer County Farm Bureau tractor, a live cow and were able to pick up some stress cows at the table by the front entrance. We also had ESPN Radio 104.5 with some tailgate games for fans to play as they made their way into the park.

Before the game, we held a locally-sourced picnic in our Picnic Pavilion with products from Wm. H. Buckley farm! They had a pregame interview with our media personality Sam Sigal before our ceremonies kicked off with a Scout parade around the warning track of the field, Scout color guard appearance during the National Anthem and a visit from the Rensselaer County and Columbia County Dairy Princesses who threw honorary first pitches before the game. Cabot Cheese donated some cheese for the night’s theme, and we cooked some awesome specialty grilled cheeses down on the first base line!

We had a Scout participate in an honorary lineup exchange and manager’s meeting before the game and more scouts were able to compete in a Cabot Cow challenge during the second inning! It was an enjoyable game at “The Joe” as fans were able to watch the ValleyCats take home another victory, 7-3 against the IronBirds! First baseman Terrell Joyce hit a two-run home run and starting pitcher Troy Scribner struck out six over six innings and earned our player of the game recognition. Scouts were invited to camp out on the field following the game, where they sent up tents and watched the movie Angels in the Outfield on our new video board! Tonight is Star Wars night here at “The Joe” presented by Eddy DayBreak! We hope to see ‘Cats fans out tonight to support the ValleyCats in the first of a three-game series against the State College Spikes!
