Game Recap: Veterans Night/Military Appreciation
Good morning, ‘Cats fans! Last night, the ValleyCats returned home to “The Joe” after a six-game road trip to face off against the Aberdeen IronBirds on Veterans Night/Military Appreciation! Our game sponsor for the evening was CSEA, and we were fortunate to have many veterans, active military members and families of those who have served in attendance for the night.
The Albany-Stratton VA Medical Hospital provided tickets for veterans, military personnel and their families. Our pregame show with ValleyCats media personality Sam Sigal talked about many of the services that the medical center provides for those who have served. We had a welcome address from Colonel Schiller, who threw out a first pitch and spoke to the crowd before the game began. Veteran Bob Bolt threw a first pitch to Tom Nardacci, also a veteran. New York State Assemblymen and Veteran Angelo Santabarbara threw a first pitch as well before the ‘Cats took the field with the Joint Force Headquarters Color Guard Team and Patriot Guard Riders motorcycles –what an awesome visual!
There were many tables lined along the concourse providing information to veterans and sharing great company to watch a baseball game! We involved some of our veterans in attendance in our in-game promotions and t-shirt toss! The ValleyCats took home another win, 5-3 against the IronBirds and remain in first place in the Stedler Division. Pitcher Joe Musgrove had a 9K night, and catcher Jamie Ritchie lead the offense for the ‘Cats and earned our player of the game recognition. And when the ValleyCats win, kids eat free at 99 Restaurants the following day with the purchase of an adult meal!
After the game, we had a check presentation with 99 Restaurants and the Boys and Girls Club, followed by our tennis ball launch and postgame fireworks. One lucky fan took home the kayak provided by Mountain Man Sports after launching a ball directly into the kayak down on the field! Tonight, the ValleyCats match up against the IronBirds for a 7 p.m. start on Arts in the Ballpark and Bring Your Dog to the Park night! We hope to see you there, ‘Cats fans!
