Independence Day Recap
Good morning, ‘Cats fans! We hope everyone had a spectacular 4th of July and continues to enjoy this beautiful weekend. It was a great night for baseball here at “The Joe” as we packed the stadium with 6,373 fans who came prepared to have some All-American fun from the first pitch at 6:30 p.m. all the way up until our postgame tennis ball launch and fireworks show. Players, fans, our gameday and front office staff put forth 100% effort and energy to make the entire night a success.
The ValleyCats debuted their patriotic jerseys and special edition red, white and blue hats which they’ll be wearing all weekend before our specialty jersey auction after Sunday’s game. Fans entered into the stadium dressed in festive attire and stopped by the Upstate Ford vehicle display out front for a chance to win a premium box seat upgrade, a ValleyCats gift card and a patriotic team jersey. Our street team had a table set up for button making and face painting for fans on their way into the park.
Our media broadcaster Sam Sigal had an awesome pregame show with ValleyCats player Nick Tanielu before we kicked off our opening ceremonies with a ceremonial first pitch from Danielle Stice and Al Fargione who are soon to be married, followed by the national anthem sung by our Crossgates Mall contest winner Kelli Trippany. Fans were able to get some autographs from players A.J. Reed and J.D. Davis before the ‘Cats took the field at 6:30!
Our on the field promotions had a July 4th twist on them as our Tri-City Mayors and SouthPaw dressed to show support for USA! The ‘Cats had a big night with a home run by Terrell Joyce in the bottom of the 6th putting the ValleyCats at a 5-3 lead against the Lowell Spinners. J.D. Davis, A.J. Reed and Alfredo Gonzalez also had a great game that helped put the ‘Cats ahead of Lowell with 7-4 final score on 7/4! The team was able to enjoy postgame fireworks down on the field to end the night. Thank you to Greg Fisher for the wonderful photos of the players and our fireworks show!
Thanks again to all of our fans for coming out to “The Joe” to spend Independence Day with the ValleyCats. We continue the rest of this homestand tonight with a 7 p.m. game against the Lowell Spinners for GE Kids in Free Night and Red, White and Blue Glow in the Park Night! There will be a glow stick giveaway and postgame fireworks! Sunday, July 6th will be our second Sunday Funday event of the year with St. Peter’s Health Partners including a Summer Reading event, pregame catch on the field and postgame kids run the bases! We hope to see you this weekend, ‘Cats fans!
