Things got a little hairy at “The Joe” on Saturday night as the ‘Cats attempted to set a new world record for the largest gathering of people wearing false moustaches.
The promotion was in honor of ValleyCats manager, Ed Romero, and his trademark moustache.
Over 3,000 ‘staches were handed out at the gate as fans entered the stadium. Each one included special instructions on the timing and procedure to ensure that the bid was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
At the end of the 2nd inning, the announcement went out and fans throughout the ballpark applied their faux facial hair. Young and old participated including the ‘Cats players in support of their skipper.
After tallying up the participants, the ValleyCats have set a new world record with an unofficial count of 2,665! Congratulations to the fans and thank you everyone for your participation!

On the field, the ‘Cats jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first. Jon Kemmer led the attack and finished a home run short of the cycle. Adam Nelubowich also provided a spark with two hits and two R.B.I.
Evan Grills threw five strong innings for the win and Gonzalo Sanudo slammed the door for his fourth save since joining Tri-City.
