Pregame Meal: Saturday, August 10th
By Matt Appel (@mattappel)
Hey there, ‘Cats fans! It’s been a while since we last talked, and for that, I apologize. The ValleyCats have been red-hot, entering tonight’s game on a five-game win streak. Over that span, they have outscored their opponents 47-18!
-The ‘Cats set a team record this year for extra base hits in a game last night with eight. I’m not sure why, but the ball has really been flying out of The Joe on this homestand. Whatever the reason, the ‘Cats don’t appear stoppable right now. They’ve scored at least ten runs in back-to-back games for the first time in exactly a year, August 9th-10th, 2012.
-As much as Conrad Gregor and Tony Kemp loved playing with each other, it appears that Kemp’s promotion was just what Gregor needed to catch fire. On this homestand, Conrad is 10-for-17 with six RBI, two doubles, a triple, and of course, that walk-off home run in the day game on Wednesday. The 4th round pick may very well be on his way to picking up a NYPL Player of the Week nod.
-With a win tonight, the ‘Cats will match a couple of season-high streaks. A victory would be their sixth in a row, tied with their six-game stretch from July 11th-15th on the road. It would also be their fifth straight home win, something they haven’t done this year since the first five games of the year at The Joe. Also, they would tie Jamestown for the best record in the league, and would have the most wins (Jamestown has played fewer games, which is why the two teams would be just tied).
-Tommy John will join me in the 1st inning of tonight’s broadcast on tcvalleycats.com as part of the Exxon Mobil’s MiLB Super Tour! It should be pretty exciting to have a 288-game winner in the booth, to tune in for first pitch at 7 pm!
-Randall Fant and Troy Scribner will pitch tonight for the ‘Cats. It will be Scribner’s Tri-City debut after his promotion from Greeneville.
