Nightly Recap: Blizzard in August
It might still be summer in the Capital Region, but there were winter-like conditions in the region on Thursday, as it was the second annual “Blizzard in August” at The Joe! The first 2, 000 fans through the gates received a Blizzard in August white t-shirt to help create a whiteout in the stands! White rally towels were also handed out, which served a great purpose when the game started! Thanks to all the fans who came out and braved the “stormy” conditions!
Before the game, the ValleyCats announced the field renovation grand prize winners from around the area! Gary Funck and Hoosick Falls Youth Baseball League received a $500 gift card to Goldstocks Sporting Goods, Peggy Kownack and Troy Central Little League will be getting their field renovated by the community grounds crew for next season with help from BlueShield, and Jennifer Serian and Twin Town Little League will have a ValleyCats team in their league next season with all uniforms provided by the ValleyCats. Finally, Jeff Coyle and Colonie Little League will experience the ValleyCats entertainment at their field next season when all of our favorite mascots and promo team visit Colonie Little League next spring!
On the field, the ‘Cats continued to dominate with the bats, sweeping the Williamsport Crosscutters with a 10-2 victory. Six different ValleyCats had multi-hit games, and, in a rarity, the ‘Cats had three triples! The trio of three-baggers is a season high, two of which came from James Ramsay and Conrad Gregor in the 4th. Andrew Thurman picked up his second win of the year with his five-inning start.
The ‘Cats continue their home stand on Friday as the Jamestown Jammers come into town. It’s Italian Night at The Joe! Come out to the park to enjoy some great italian cooking! After the final out, stick around for another great Price Chopper Fireworks show!
