Nightly Recap: Irish Night & Camp Day
The ValleyCats returned home on Tuesday to start off a six-game home stand against the Williamsport Crosscutters! It was Irish Night at The Joe, as the local Irish band Hair of the Dog thrilled the crowd with a pre-game concert to kick off the festivities!
The Irish 2000 Music & Arts Festival was the game sponsor with great giveaways throughout the night! For more information about their 17th annual festival on September 13th & 14th, check out their homepage here.
Our friends from Cap Com were on hand to be recognized as co-champions of the Capital Region Series that took place at The Joe in June! Congratulations to all that participated in the tournament!
We had a very special ceremony on the field before the game in honor of LTC Todd Clark. LTC Clark was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 8th, 2013. To commemorate his life, the Patriot Guard Riders joined us in full force, along with the parents and brother of LTC Clark. Todd was highly decorated with numerous Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medal with “V” for Valor, Expeditionary and Campaign Medals with Service Stars, NATO Medals; the Combat Action Badge; the Parachutist Badge, Presidential Unit Citations, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and 5 Overseas Service Bars.
Our staff was in a festive mood for Irish Night, including our two resident leprechauns: Doubles O’Callahan and Lucky! We were lucky enough to have them participate in some of our in-game races as well as t-shirt tosses! Lucky got involved with the Mayors Race, allowing Mayor Rosamilia to take home the victory! He made another appearance in the Hot Dog race, holding up Relish in search of the pot of gold!
During the middle of the 3rd inning, The Columbia & District Pipe Band performed on top of the home dugout, thrilling the crowd with sensational sounds!
Step dancers from The Farrell School of Irish Dance were on hand for their annual Irish Night performance down on the field!
On the field, the ‘Cats broke out offensively, scoring their most runs of the year in a 10-2 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters! Ronnie Mitchell was the hero offensively, driving in three runs as the ‘Cats won their second straight game!
Just a few hours later, everyone was back at the stadium for an 11 AM start on Camp Day! Many local day camps were on hand to enjoy a fun afternoon of baseball at The Joe!
Our Mayors Race featured a great dancing performance from our participants, as well as Sporty!
On the field, the ‘Cats won in tremendous style, as Conrad Gregor hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for a 8-7 victory! The team mobbed Gregor at the plate and celebrated on the field afterwards! It was the third win in a row for the ‘Cats.
The ValleyCats and Crosscutters wrap up their three-game series on Thursday at 7 pm. Fans should expect winter-like conditions, as it will be a “Blizzard in August” at The Joe! The first 2,000 fans will receive a special “Blizzard in August” t-shirt to create a whiteout at the stadium!
