Nightly Recap: July 8th
The ValleyCats continued their six-game homestand on Sunday night at “The Joe”, and for the second time this season, it was “Sunday Funday at The Joe”! Fans were invited to come out onto the field and play catch before the game.
It was also Relay for Life Night at the ballpark, as the ValleyCats were wearing special purple and white jerseys. Fans could bid on the jerseys during the game, and the proceeds of the winning bids will go the Relay for the Life and the American Cancer Society. Thank you so much to all of those who bid on the game-worn jerseys!
Before the game, survivors of cancer from the American Cancer Society took a lap around the stadium as a way to raise awareness for those who have or are currently battling cancer. We were so glad to see members from the American Cancer Society in the ballpark on Sunday!
We were also glad to be joined by two professional LPGA golfers, Haley Milsap and Kendall Dye! They each threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Also, during the game, they both participated in a chipping contest on the field, in which Haley won!
On the field, the ‘Cats lost their second straight by a final of 3-1 to the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Despite the loss, ValleyCats pitcher Kyle Westwood had a great outing, in which he went five innings and allowed just one hit. Westwood now leads the New York-Penn League with a fantastic 0.68 ERA.
