Last night marked the ValleyCats first-ever Strike Out Violence Night at “The Joe.” This was the culmination of an off-season program that saw SouthPaw and friends visit a number of local schools to perform their Strike Out Bullying Skit. This campaign is part of a partnership with BlueShield of Northeastern New York and highlighted the importance of including everyone despite our differences.
Schools that were visited had an opportunity to participate in a poster contest with the winners receiving tickets courtesy of the Sexual Assault & Crime Victims Assistance Program at Samaritan Hospital – a member of St. Peter’s Health Partners. All students in attendance were encouraged to sign the ValleyCats Peace Pledge that will be displayed on the outfield wall all season long.
Congratulations to School 14 of Troy, the winner of this contest! Their poster, and several others were on display at “The Joe” this evening. Students of School 14 also joined Sammy Baseball, SouthPaw, Rowdy, and Ribbie to lead the stadium in the ValleyCats Peace Pledge.
This game marked our first Tunes for Tuesday of the year, which featured two different groups, both high school bands. The Underscores followed Cass and Emma as spectacular performers to celebrate the end of classes.
On the field, it was another 9-run performance for the ‘Cats as they beat Vermont for a second straight night. Tony Kemp led the way once again for Tri-City, blasting his first professional home run to lead off the 3rd inning. Through two games, Kemp is hitting an incredible .571. Dan Gulbransen also added a longball that gave the ‘Cats the lead in the bottom of the 5th.

The ValleyCats and Lake Monsters will go at it again Wednesday night at 7:00 as the ‘Cats go for the sweep to wrap up this three-game series. It’s Wayback Wednesday at The Joe, as we celebrate the 1980’s! After the game, we’ll have our second Price Chopper Fireworks show, as well as the 25 Silver Ball Launch. Hope to see many of you tonight!
