Thursday was Summer Olympics Night at “The Joe” as the ‘Cats defeated the Muckdogs by the score of 6-2. Aaron West allowed just one run as he turned in another sparkling performance. Catfish Elkins started the scoring in the 3rd with his 4th home run of the season. Heineman, Tucker, Morales, and Dineen all had multi-hit games to help pace the offense.
MVP Health Care was the game sponsor and helped fans root on the United States with Olympic-themed giveaways throughout the night. Fans received white rally towels at the gate and posters featuring Olympian Abby Wambach at their concourse table. Radio Disney joined MVP with an interactive inflatable in the Field of Dreams area.
Our friends from Local 7 were also on hand to showcase a pro bass boat that they sponsor. Fishing pro, John Pelletier, assisted with the rods and reels giveaway for kids. Several ValleyCats also seemed to enjoy the display . . . including the aptly named Catfish Elkins.
Competitors from the Special Olympics were welcomed to the game and competed in several of our on-field contests.
Even the Mayors got into the spirit as they completed a day-long decathlon with a sprint down the line. Albany Mayor, Jerry Jennings, emerged victorious and took home the gold.
The first-place ValleyCats will be back at it again on Friday as they kick off a huge weekend at “The Joe!” There are still standing room and berm seating available for Italian Night and the post-game fireworks.
