Saturday was GE Kids in Free Night at “The Joe” as children under 12 received a free ticket with a paying adult. Families from all over the Capital Region took advantage of this promotion as 5,994 fans packed the ballpark.
GE greeted our young fans with free t-shirts as the entered the stadium and provided some unique opportunities throughout the game.
Avery Ball was selected to throw out a ceremonial first pitch as part of the promotion. Our friend Ian was chosen as the Junior P.A. Announcer and announced the ValleyCats as they came to the plate in the 4th inning, and junior broadcaster Connor joined Evan Valenti in the ValleyCats broadcast booth to help with the some on air play-by-play.
Randi and Kev from 99.5. The River joined us for the festivities and helped with Time Warner Cable TV Trivia.
The red hot ValleyCats took their third straight from Vermont on the strength of seven dominant innings from Brian Holmes. Holmes improved his record to 3-1 with an impressive 8 k’s and no free passes. The offense was led by Dan Gulbransen who connected for his second home run of the season.
The ‘Cats are home again on Sunday for the team’s 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The team will be sporting pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game, with the proceeds benefiting the Women’s Health Center at Samaritan Hospital.
Game 2 of the series against Vermont will also be our 2nd Sunday Funday of the season. Kids are invited onto the field for a pre-game catch at 4:00 PM and will then have a chance to run the bases after the final out. Family Four Packs are still available for Sunday’s game! Earlier in the day, we will host the championship game of the Capital Region Series with Trustco Bank defending their title against Cap Com Federal Credit Union. Good luck to both teams!
