The late Ernie Williams has been a staple for the annual Tunes for Tuesday: Blues, BBQ, and Baseball Night at “The Joe.” Williams’ bandmates took center stage as we paid tribute to the late blues legend.
Ernie’s wife, Kathy, accompanied band members Rocky Petrocelli and Mark Emanation as they were recognized on the field as part of the pre-game ceremonies.
Subway was in attendance as the game sponsor with “Sub Dude” tossing a ceremonial first pitch. Their prize wheel was a hit behind home plate and members of the Subway crew helped out the Cat Pack during the T-Shirt Tosses.
Our friends from Brown’s Brewing Company took their show on the road for their first-ever Ballpark Beer Supper at the Top of the Hill. Chef Luca Brunelle was on hand to put a delicious spin on the normal ballpark fare. The menu included:
– Ale Braised Bratwurst with Caraway Caramelized Onion Sauerkraut, Red Pepper Ketchup & Jalapeno Jelly,
– Summer Vegetables and Mixed Greens with Peanuts, Cracker Jacks, Gorgonzola, Croutons & Local Honey with Tart Berry Vinaigrette. Garnished with Crispy Tobacco Onions
– Beer Pretzel Crusted Chicken with Cheddar Bacon Mashed Potatoes, Pale Ale Mustard Sauce & Tomato Jam
Each course was paired with a Brown’s beer and there was a cookie bar with dips, candies, and whipped cream for desert.
In keeping with the theme, the third member of the Blues Brothers made a special appearance during the 5th Inning Drag. The soul men really brought their A-Game.
The game itself featured a pitchers duel with Joe Bircher dealing six scoreless frames. Lowell broke through against the bullpen in the 7th but Jobduan Morales tied the game with a mammoth home run in the bottom half of the inning. Lowell would take the lead for good in the 9th as the ‘Cats winning streak was halted at seven games.
The ‘Cats are home again tomorrow for Welcome to the Future Night presented by Colt Recycling, followed by the always great Price Chopper fireworks. Join the fun before they head back out on the road Thursday.
