Photo Day/Team Poster Giveaway Night at “The Joe”

Saturday night was the ValleyCats’ annual Photo Day at “The Joe.” Fans received posters of their 2012 Tri-City ValleyCats as they entered the stadium. The ValleyCats mascot family was also available for photos in the Field of Dreams from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and fans were able to customize their own souvenir baseball card.

The team took part in a special pre-game autograph session on the field . Fans enjoyed getting to see their favorite players up close and getting their posters signed by all the ‘Cats players.
Rensselaer County District Attorney, Rich McNally, was on hand to present the Hoosic Valley Varsity Baseball Team with a Night of Champions award in recognition of their perfect 20-0 season.
It was also Rensselaer County Relay for Life Night which included a pre-game lap around the warning track for cancer survivors and relay volunteers. Alex Holcomb and Chrissy Connery were honored as cancer survivors on the field with ceremonial first pitches and Larry Heath was also recognized for his fundraising efforts.

The ValleyCats wore special Relay for Life jerseys tonight in honor of the cause. The jerseys were auctioned off throughout the game with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The auction winners received their jerseys from the players as part of a post-game ceremony.
On the field, Tri-City  rebounded from a three game by downing the Aberdeen Ironbirds by the score of 8-2. Aaron West turned in another strong start, working five scoreless innings to lower his ERA to a very respectable 1.02. Andrew Aplin, Jesse Wierzbicki, and Tyler Heineman led the attack with two hits apiece.
The ‘Cats are home again on Sunday at 5pm to continue their three game series with Aberdeen. It will also be the first Sunday Funday of the season as fans will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game catch at 4:00 PM on the field. Kids will be invited back onto the field after the final out for a chance to run the bases.
