The American Heart Assocation held the 2010 Start! Heart Walk of the Capital Region at The Crossings of Colonie on Saturday. The event attracted over 3,000 walkers and raised over $320 thousand.
Start! Heart Walk is a national initiative that brings communities together in celebration of progress in the fight against heart disease and stroke. It’s an inspirational day that is filled with energy, excitement and hope.
In tradition, all cancer survivors wore special red caps and gathered as a group.
The survivors then cut the ribbon to officially kick off the “Start!” of the walk.
SouthPaw laced up his walking shoes for the event, and is joined here by one of the cancer survivor’s VIP fundraisers as well as the American Heart Association mascot.
The National Anthem was performed by the
Yankee Doodle Band, who also performed at “The Joe” many times this past season.
SouthPaw also met up with the Damien the UAlbany great dane and the Devil Dawg from the Albany Devils.
Live music was provided by Wylder and lunch was provided by
Subway, a national sponsor of the Start! Heart Walk. There was also a
Heart Health Screening tent by St. Peters Health Care which provided blood pressure tests and more.
